basic blacksmithing techniques. Everyone will have the chance to work in the fire and hammer
some red-hot steel on the anvil, so bring your safety glasses and work gloves! Participants will
be able to take home their own forged coat hook and experiment with various techniques of this
age-old skill. A home-grown lunch will be provided, and for those interested, a horse shoeing
demonstration and farm tour will follow the class.

Food from the Back Yard—Container Gardening and Building a Raised Bed
Saturday, May 30th, 10:00—2:00

through appropriate crop selection and the use of containers or raised beds, you’ll find a way to
grow at least a few different vegetables and herbs in your yard, on your porch, or even on a
windowsill. Come learn about soil mixes, sun and shade-tolerant crops, choosing or creating the
right containers, and building a raised bed. Prepare and plant a small container to take home
with you. A home-grown lunch will be provided.

brimming with life during the peak of summer, and preserve them in a way that creates live
culture foods that will last you well into the winter. Participants will discuss the cultural history,
nutrition, science and the health benefits of lactofermentation and will have the chance to
sample lactofermented products such as kimchi, saurkraut, pickled turnips, rosehip “soda”,
