Organic Produce

Membership-based USDA-accredited organic certifying agency that educates and certifies growers, processors and handlers of organic crops, wild crops, livestock and livestock products in Pennsylvania and adjoining states.  Site lists operations certified by PCO.   

  • Understanding the New USDA Organic Label - Article by Institute for Lifecycle Environmental Assessment. New laws governing the consistency of organic farming, processing, and labeling began 21 October 2002.

Some of the places also sell produce/eggs raised in an organic manner...no pesticides, no antibiotics; free range grass fed poultry raised humanely but are not PA Certified Organic. Organic certification is expensive for small farms. Ask at the business for details of their practices and certification.

Sun 8-6, Mon - Sat 6-8. Free-range organic eggs, organic cheeses, organic tofu, some organic meat, food gift baskets. Locally milled fancy unbleached pastry flour.
Bottled raw milk from pastured Brown Swiss cows. Best to special order raw milk or get on their regular supply list. Milk delivered on Thurs., sells out quickly.
Organic burgers available at restaurant.

Sun 8-5, Mon 7-5, Tues - Fri. 7-9, Sat. 8-9. During summer months some organic produce is served. Shade-grown fair trade organic coffee available year round. Some eggs from Dreamcatcher Farm in Lewisburg. Breakfast served until 3 pm and lunch items available until an hour prior to closing. Smoking is permitted in their outdoor seating areas so you may smell smoke inside if you sit near outside door. Parking on street or public parking lot behind post office on corner of Market St. and S. 3 St. Large handicap accessible bathrooms. Open scrabble games played most Tuesday evenings at 6 pm.

Farm store open 9-5 Fridays 1 Jun -  12 Oct. Organic items include: breads, fresh fruits and vegetables, duck, veal, nuts, dried fruit. Fresh pasture-raised meats, eggs, raw dairy, wild salmon, fresh produce, breads, baked goods, nuts, soaps. Vendors listed on website.
Eggs, milk, cheese and other market day items. Saturday Market Days 10 am - 3 pm: 9, 23 June; 14, 28 July; 11, 25 August; 8, 22 September, 13 October.

Closed Sunday, Mon - Fri 9-8, Sat 9-5. Various organic items, cookware, personal care items, vitamins. A few small tables to eat purchased items inside store.

Some organic produce. Largest organic section in yheir Williamsport store. Started in Carlisle in 1923. In 1981 Giant entered into an agreement with Royal Ahold, a food retailing business based in Zaandam, Netherlands.

Sun 8-2, closed Mon, Tu 8-2, Wed/Thurs/Fri 8-8, Sat 7:30-8. Breakfast menu available all day. Full menu. All organic produce in summer, winter when available. Four organic breads: sprouted spelt, Biblical, sourdough, raisin spelt. Breads may be purchased frozen as take out or as part of menu. Organic steel cut oatmeal and quinoa. Organic burgers when available. Free range poultry and eggs. Pork hormone and antibiotic free. Homemade pies and cakes. 50's decor, casual atmosphere.

Closed Sun and Mon. Tues - Wed 10-5, Thurs - Fri 10-7, Sat 9-5. Local products including cheese from Richfield, in season local organic produce, variety of teas, organic soaps. Take out available. Stacy Heckman owner. Opened in Nov 2006. Store will move and expand to include specialty Italian restaurant along with expanding current store products.

PCO certified organic pastured chickens, turkeys, lamb, pork, and eggs.  Chickens are available June through October. Birds may be purchased whole or cut-up. Frozen, vacuum-packed whole birds can be shipped. Fresh turkeys are produced for the Thanksgiving holiday. Grassfed and finished lamb are born in April, in synch with nature. All they eat is green forage and mother's milk. The lambs are available at the farm starting in October, by the whole or half, ready for your freezer. Pigs are born on pasture and supplemented with our own organic grain to finish in the fall and to be available at the farm in November and December. Eggs are always available. Our newsletter and order form can be sent on request.  Farm visits are welcome, but Sunday sales are discouraged.

In season produce 2-6 pm Fridays  mid May through October.  Local growers. Most sell organic or sustainably grown produce . Most are PASA members. First few weeks herb and vegetable plants were available. Last year's vendors included Beaver Run Farms near Turbotville selling chicken, pork and sausage; Cow-A-Hen Farm in Mifflinburg selling meadow-raised beef, chicken, turkey, and veal; and many other vendors.  Wild Alaskan salmon should be available again in mid August. Widest selection of certified organic produce. Sells organic milk from small farmers in recyclable plastic gallon containers. Open 24 hrs. Started in Rochester, NY in 1912. Located in five states.

  • Weiss/Natural by Nature certified organic milk from grass fed cows, in half gallon waxed cartons of 2% or fat free milk. Some organic produce, organic tomato sauces. Started in Sunbury in 1912. Located in five states under various names.
