Remember: LEAVE NO TRACE. Carry out everything you carry in including apple cores. Bears are able to smell for a long distance. If you pitch an apple core into the woods you are attracting critters to that spot. Keep our woods wild. LEAVE NO TRACE.

The Alpine Club

Appalachian Mountain Club Delaware Valley Chapter

  • Since 1876, AMC promotes the protection, enjoyment, and wise use of the mountains, rivers, and trails of the Northeast outdoors. Chapters from ME to Washington, DC.
  • Maintains trails, huts, and lodges open to all. Environmental education and stewardship is practiced at each site.
  • Seeks volunteer particpation in its Mountain Watch mountain plant monitoring program.
  • AMC activity search site.
  • White Mountain Guide Online, free for 14 days, then a yearly fee.

Keystone Trails Association

  • Alliance of organizations and individuals who share a common interest in hiking in Pennsylvania and neighboring states.
  • Protects hiking trail lands through support and advocacy and educates the public in the responsible use of trails and the natural environment.
  • Activities include: hiking weekends,  trail care, workshop and training seminars.
  • Maintains Hikes All Around PA which lists hikes throughout PA by region.
  • Online Guide to Major Trails of PA. 

Useful trail info includes trail length, difficulty, markings, trail head location, maps, some photos.

Mid State Trail Association

Ridge and Valley Outing Club

  • Based in State College, RVOC leads weekly outings into State Forests, Parks, and Natural Areas throughout our area. Here is link to Quarterly newsletters which include hike schedules. Scroll down page to see link to most recent newsletter. All outings are open to the public and geared to varying ages and abilities. Schedule includes trail ratings.

  • Outings include hiking, backpacking, nature walks, road and mountain biking, canoeing, trail care, social gatherings.
  • Send email to  RVOCTuesday@aol.com to receive hike reminders and changes.

Sierra Club Otzinachson Group of PA Chapter

  • Regional Sierra Club with active hiking club and local and national environmental interests. Regional contact:  jmiller1018@yahoo.com
  • Events schedule includes hiking, biking, and one service project. At times unscheduled events will be added via e-mail. If you would like your name added to the unscheduled notification list, send your e-mail address to Membership Chair and put on the subject line "unscheduled hike list".
  • Program schedule includes speakers and movies.
  • Current newsletter.
  • Meetings held 7 pm first Wednesday every other month at First Baptist Church 51 S. 3rd St., Lewisburg. Enter building at side entrance steps/ramp on St. Louis St. February, April, June, August, October, December.  All are welcome.

Susquehanna Trailers Hiking Club

  • Organized in 1932 by the Playground and Recreation Association of Wyoming Valley.
  • Based in Wilkes-Barre, any one is welcome on hikes, membership is optional. Pets are not permitted on hikes. Hike leaders may refuse to allow any person to participate in the hike who in their opinion is not properly equipped, adequately prepared, or physically fit.
  • Schedule includes hikes and parties. Call the hike leader if there is any question of hike cancellation.
  • Hike leaders and club members are responsible for enforcing Club trail rules.
